Microsoft software will be at the heart of broadband TV services from Bell Canada, AT&T (and by extension now BellSouth), British Telecom, Reliance Infocomm, Swisscom, Telecom Italia, and Verizon. There were some early reports of trouble with Microsoft's IPTV platform, criticism Ed Graczyk, director of marketing for Microsoft TV, blamed on faulty hardware & media "misinformation" (Wired News, May '05).

Om Malik scoops that Microsoft today is likely to announce they've now signed up Deutsche Telekom as well. The move doesn't bode well for Siemens, who had hopes of competing with Microsoft on the U.S. and European IPTV fronts. As Light Reading suggested recently, Siemens can still hope the MS/Alcatel solution stinks, leading disgruntled providers back in their direction.
