: The Denver Public Library has become the first library (or so it says) in the country to offer movie downloads, through a partnership with OverDrive, a digital distribution company that caters to libraries.
Library patrons can download copies of Frederico Fellini's 8½, surf film The Endless Summer and Imax movie The Living Sea, among other educational, indie and public domain releases. Users can download the films for a set rental period and can view it on their Windows-based PC, notebook or portable media player. Movies are copy protected with Microsoft Windows Media Rights Manager, which restricts file sharing.
Besides others, OverDrive is in negotiations with A&E Home Video for rights to distribute hundreds of their programs.
The cumbersome part is you have to download OverDrive's "Media Console" on top of Windows Media Player to view and manage these movies.
