CNET is reporting that Microsoft is considering offering free, ad-supported versions of applications like Money, Works, or even the Windows OS. "As Web advertising grows and consumer revenues shrink, we need to consider creating ad-supported versions of our software," says a Microsoft exec in a "leaked" document. Of course, that's likely the niche Microsoft's Live services will likely fill, making CNET's scoop probably irrelevant.
