Experimedia is both a community site like Slashdot and a net-label. I've seen this done before by Opsound, which also mixes community and publishing. The difference is that Experimedia really hits you over the head with features for socializing, and I needed that to understand what I was seeing.

Internet music is conversational: the internet is the new medium, conversation is the new genre. Wherever you see net-native music -- Songfight, Remixfight, CC Mixter, Webjay -- you see a conversational version of a formerly static medium. This is why it makes sense to say "I really feel like hearing some podcasts right now" in the same way that you'd say "I really feel like some triphop."

In transposing the idea of a record label to the internet, community net-labels like Experimedia and Opsound are rethinking it as something more like hosting a party and less like operating a printing press.
