Thoughts on Handwritten Search
Christopher Coulter of TabletPCpost.com sent along this interesting article about a project at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst that allows researchers to search handwritten historical documents, something many TabletPC users do every day.

I have to wonder, though: If they have the ability to transcribe handwritten words for the purpose of a search, why don't they just transcribe the entire document so we can all read them online? Better yet, attach the contents as metadata to the image of the historical document so other search engines like Google can index them.
