I just watched my TiVo'd recording of Monday's PBS NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. Jeffrey Brown looked at what new media heralds in 2007. I was thrilled to see my friend Mary Hodder, CEO of Dabble, on the show. The subject matter was familiar to those who follow citizen media or social media -- such as the camera phone footage of a UCLA student assaulted with a taser gun by campus police, or Sen. George Allen's "macaca" moment -- but the trend of user-created media is really just getting widespread coverage by the mainstream media only now, thanks in part to Time magazine's naming "You" the Person of the Year.

Mary writes about her appearance here, and she did a good job in highlighting how youth culture is drifting away from traditional media (or "legacy media," which she calls it). Mark Jurkowitz, Adam Clayton Powell III and Nicholas Lemann  were also guests. The Online NewsHour unit is supposed to post a transcript here -- though they haven't yet.
